Working with iCloud in PowerPoint 365 for Mac

Learn how to work with files stored on your iCloud in PowerPoint 365 for Mac. iCloud access works differently than how you work with Places for your OneDrive account.

If you are working with PowerPoint on a Mac, then you are working within an environment that’s designed to closely work with Apple’s product ecosystem, including cloud storage locations such as Apple’s iCloud. Unlike OneDrive and Dropbox, where you can Add a Place to access and save files in PowerPoint for iPad, Apple's iCloud does not work the same way. To access and save files on your iCloud Drive, you will have to work a little differently, as explained in this tutorial.

Save and Open!

Unlike within PowerPoint for iPad, you can both save a new file or resave a file previously saved on OneDrive or Dropbox into iCloud.

Follow these steps to open files on iCloud in PowerPoint 365 for Mac:

  1. You should be on the opening screen of PowerPoint 365 for Mac, as shown in Figure 1, below.

  3. If you have already opened another file, you can choose the File | New from Template menu option, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 2, below.
  4. Choose the New from Template option

  5. Now, click the Open tab on the left pane, highlighted in red within Figure 3, below. In the resultant window, tap the On My Mac option, as shown highlighted in green within Figure 3.

  7. This action will open your file dialog, as shown in Figure 4, below. Within the left pane, choose the iCloud Drive option, highlighted in orange within Figure 4. If your iCloud Drive has many files, you can also use the Search option available, highlighted in blue within Figure 4. In the drive, navigate to, and select a PowerPoint file, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 4. To open any selected file, double-click or click the Open button, highlighted in green within Figure 4.
  8. Access iCloud Drive

  9. PowerPoint will now load the file from your iCloud Drive, and open it in PowerPoint, as shown in Figure 5, below.
  10. Open a file from the iCloud Drive

  11. Note that you can make changes to this file and save it back to your iCloud Drive.
