While you can open and save files from any file location you access on your computer or network, you can also add more places from where you can open and save files. You see options to add a place in both the Open and Save As tabs of Backstage view, as shown highlighted in red within Figures 1 and 2, below.

Do note that within the existing places in both tabs, the OneDrive location is not accessible because we have not signed in to our Microsoft Account.

By default, your OneDrive location is already available as a place, only if you have signed in. But you can add more places too, as we shall explore in this tutorial.

Follow these steps to learn how you can add a place in PowerPoint 2013 for Windows:

  1. First, you must sign in to your Microsoft Account to be able to access your default OneDrive location. If you are not signed in, click the Sign in option on the top-right of the PowerPoint interface, as shown in Figure 3, below.
  2. Sign in
    Figure 3: Sign in
  3. Doing so brings up the Sign in dialog, as shown in Figure 4, below. Enter your email address, followed by your password in the subsequent screen, and proceed.
  4. Sign in to your Microsoft Account

  5. As a result, you will see that the Open tab of Backstage view now shows the OneDrive – Personal place signed in, as shown highlighted in blue within Figure 5, below. For now, click the Add a Place option, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 5.
  6. Add a Place

  7. Either way, you bring up the Add a Place options towards the right, as shown in Figure 6, below. You can choose to add an Office 365 SharePoint or a OneDrive location as a place. The former option is for those who have business subscriptions to an Office 365 or Microsoft 365 account, whereas the latter option is suitable for those who want to add another Microsoft Account.
  8. Choose the place you want to add

  9. If you choose the OneDrive option, you summon the same dialog box, as shown in Figure 4, previously on this page. You can similarly type in your email address and password to add another OneDrive location as a new place.
  10. If you choose the Office 365 SharePoint option, you will have to type in your Office 365 or Microsoft 365 credentials, and you will end up adding your OneDrive business location as a place.
  11. We added both account types and ended up with a few more Places in the Open and Save tabs of Backstage view. You can see these Places in the Open tab, as shown in Figure 7, below. Compare with Figure 5.
