Change the Unit Of Measurement in Mac OS

Learn how to change the unit of measurement from US to Metric, and vice versa in Mac OS.

Essentially, the unit of measurement used by Mac OS is determined by the Language & Region settings. Choices available are US and Metric. In this tutorial, we'll show you how you can change the units from US to Metric, or vice versa.

  1. In the Apple menu, select the Mac | System Preferences menu option, as shown in Figure 1, below.

  3. Doing so opens the System Preferences window, as shown in Figure 2, below. Click on the Language & Region option, as shown highlighted in red in Figure 2.

  5. Doing so opens the Language & Region window, as shown in Figure 3, below. Click on the Advanced option, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 3.

  7. Within the resultant window, make sure that the General tab is active, as shown in Figure 4, below. Click on the Measurement units option, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 3, above.

  9. This action opens a flyout menu with two options: Metric and US, as shown in Figure 5, below. The option with a tick mark in front of it is the active measurement unit. In Figure 5, you can see that Metric is the active measurement unit. Select the required unit to change from Metric to US, or vice versa.
  10. Choose between Metric and US measurement unit

  11. Click the OK button to save the settings.
