| PowerPoint and Presenting News |
|
| Voice, Vision, Impact |
| |
| |
| This issue celebrates the power of voice, intention, and the unique strengths of presentation as a medium. We begin with a conversation with Carmine Gallo
on Viral Voices, where authentic communication becomes a force that captures attention and inspires connection. Next, Traci Saulsberry shares how purposeful expression shapes relationships, reminding us that what we say matters as much as how we say it. Finally, we explore why PowerPoint is not Word or Excel, and how embracing its distinct visual and narrative capabilities helps you present ideas
more
clearly and memorably. Together, these stories show that when you combine authentic voice with intentional design, your message lands more powerfully—whether on stage, on screen, or in life. |

Despite the fact: by Scott Schwertly
"Despite the fact that technology, psychology, and the business environment have changed drastically since the introduction of PowerPoint, few presenters have adapted their craft to this altered environment."

| PowerPoint is not Word or Excel |
| |
 |
| |
Many bad presentations are a result of not using PowerPoint as a slide-creation tool at all. Does that sound like a cryptic statement? Then let me unravel it for you: many Office users think of PowerPoint as an extension to Word and Excel, the other programs that Microsoft bundled in the Office box.
It gets worse. Not only do some users
believe that PowerPoint is like Word or Excel, but they even use it that way. Imagine approaching PowerPoint with a Word or Excel approach. Since Microsoft has kept the interface in all these three programs so similar, Word and Excel users are comfortable with PowerPoint from the minute they start using it. In fact, some of them don't even notice that they are not using Word or Excel! |
