| Great Beginnings |
| |
| |
| Every great presentation begins long before the first slide appears or the first word is spoken. This issue of our newsletter connects those building blocks — understanding placeholders in PowerPoint helps you organize ideas visually, while mastering public speaking essentials ensures those ideas resonate aloud.
And for new business owners, both skills translate directly into confident communication that inspires clients, teams, and investors alike. Whether you’re refining your storytelling on stage or structuring your message on screen, this edition reminds us that effective presentations — and successful ventures — start with clarity, confidence, and the courage to share your story well. |

| What’s a Placeholder in PowerPoint? |
| |
 |
| |
| Imagine you’re getting ready to bake cupcakes. Before you start, you line up your bowls—one for flour, one for sugar, and one for sprinkles. Each bowl has a special job, right? PowerPoint placeholders are just like those bowls! They show you where to put things on your slide—your title at the top, your content in the middle, and your footers at the
bottom. These placeholders can be easily identified because they have some boilerplate text such as Click to add title or Tap to add title, or similar. |

| Feature List 01 (Layout with Tabs) |
|
| |
 |
| |
| The Feature List Layout comprises three sample PowerPoint presentations: one each to create a visual list for 4 features, 5 features, and 6 features. These work great when you have too much information to fit within one slide. This solution lets you use multiple slides, but the visual result is still that of one single slide! |

| Public Speaking Essentials |

| I joined the Experience French Toastmasters Club and was excited and eager to present my first speech. Having been a Toastmaster for twenty years I had given hundreds of speeches, but this would be my first in another language. I was well-prepared, checking my pronunciation and grammar. Memorization is not something I am good with, nor do I consider
it helpful in giving a speech. However, since I was presenting this in French, and not my native English, I thought to try it. Spoiler alert: it was not a good idea and increased my anxiety. |

| When I realized university wasn’t happening, I had to choose between apprenticeships at Courage brewery or Shell oil. I chose brewing because it sounded much more fun with its pubs and breweries than petrol stations and oil refineries. It was the best move I ever made, setting me up for life as an entrepreneur. That two-year training program gave me
everything I needed: whisky blending, wine importing, accountancy, pub management, and most importantly, genuine empathy with employees. I understood every aspect of the pub business because I’d done every job myself. Without that grounding I would not have built a successful group of 12 pubs across London, eventually selling the chain for £6.6 million. |
