Design Styles in Microsoft Sway

Learn how to change Design Styles in Microsoft Sway.

Once you access the Design pane in Sway, you will be presented with a bewildering array of Design Styles that can change the appearance of your Sway. In Figure 1, you can see how our original Sway looks like.

Follow these steps to proceed:

  1. Open an existing Sway, or create a new one. Then access the Design pane, as explained in our Designs in Sway tutorial.
  2. You will see several prebuilt Styles, represented as square thumbnails (see area highlighted in red within Figure 2, below).

  3. Figure 2: Design Styles in Sway
  4. You will typically see 6 Style families. Each Style family has several variants, and you can see a few variants for each Style. To see even more variants, click the Arrow icons highlighted in blue within Figure 2 above. This will reveal more Style variants, as shown in Figure 3, below.

  5. Figure 3: More Style variants
  6. Notice that you can now see Arrow icons on both sides of the Style, as shown highlighted in blue within Figure 3, above. Keep navigating using these Arrow icons until you reach the end, and can see no Arrow icon on the right as shown in Figure 4, below.

  7. Figure 4: No more Style variants
  8. Finally, choose a Style variant you like by clicking on the related thumbnail. This will now change the appearance of your Sway as shown in Figure 5 (compare with Figure 1, earlier on this page).

If you do not like any of the Style options provided to you, you can customize available Styles, as explained in our Customize Styles in Sway tutorial.
