They have recently diversified into wireless projection transmitting hardware as well.
Geetesh: Please tell us more about yourself, and your involvement with the WMS 100 and WMS 200 wireless presentation solutions.
Johnson: My name is Johnson Yang, the General Manager of NewSoft America Inc. We’re one of the branch offices of NewSoft Technology and we’re responsible for Northern America market sales and marketing for WMS100 and WMS200 as well as other NewSoft products.

Geetesh: How do these wireless presentation transmitters/receivers work -- and how easy are they to set up?
Johnson: WMS100 and WMS200 devices are WiFi receivers that are embedded with 802.11 a/b/g mini PCI cards. Any computer with WiFi capability and with NewSoft Presto! WMS software installed can bring the screen wirelessly to the WMS adapters.
The Presto! WMS software is easy to use software that will automatically search the WiFi channel as well the available WMS devices for user to select and connect with. Once the device is hooked up, the user simply clicks the Play button and it will bring up the screen to the WMS receivers with PowerPoint presentation file or any software demo wirelessly.
The WMS200 also supports full motion video files playback that including MPEG-1/2/4 and Microsoft WMV9 video formats.
The WMS100 comes with VGA output and WMS200 provides VGA and HDMI outputs. They can work with any VGA (and HDMI) display, or TV.
Geetesh: Can you share some case studies on their use?
Johnson: Case 1, in a class of school. The projector is ceiling mounted with WMS hook up. The teacher has a Tablet PC (or laptop) with all of the teaching materials. With Presto! WMS software installed in the computer, the teacher simply broadcasts these materials wirelessly to the wall/board and they can also bring the quizzes from the laptop computer to the students, and ask for responses instantly.
With the WMS installed, teachers can walk around the classroom, and are no longer limited to the wire connection to the projector.
For higher education classrooms, students can also use the WMS and present their homework or projects wirelessly to the projector, and show to the class without connecting a cable.
Case 2, a board meeting in a corporate setting. Board members can use the WMS device to do their wireless presentations without switching seats to get the VGA cable connected due to the limitations of the projector or the cable length. People who don’t like to install the software to their computer may have the option to use the USB drive that includes Presto! WMS software. The optional Presto! WMS software can run directly from the USB drive without any installation.
Case 3, a fitness center. With a WMS200 connected to a large screen TV in every facility room, they simply have class videos or the facility introduction video in any USB drive and connect to WMS200 so the video can do the playback nonstop, even without a connection to a computer.

Case 4, a tradeshow booth. A software company uses WMS for their software demo to the audience without cable connection to the projector. It ’s easy to setup and then there’s no cost for the wire construction to the stage.
Another company uses WMS as a digital signage for nonstop playback of the company and products introduction without complicated equipment and setup. They simply change the contents anytime they want. USB direct playback provides an additional value for non-PC use scenario.

Geetesh: Can you share some trivia, or any unconventional use of these products, or just anything that you would like to share with Indezine readers?
Johnson: People generally only use WiFi for surfing the internet and nothing else. Presto! WMS software uses the technology with existing standard WiFi as a vehicle for sending the computer screen shots or videos to the WMS receiver. This adds value to the current WiFi and extends the use of the capability without additional equipment.
People can also use WMS at home and connect it to their TV. Instead of showing off their vacation or specious photos from a laptop or the computer in bedroom or home office, they can wirelessly broadcast the photos or video files to the large TV screen so everyone can enjoy watching that on the couch of living room.
