Identify the Active Theme in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac

Learn how to identify the active Theme name in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.

Unlike the Windows versions of PowerPoint which show the active Theme name on the Status bar, the Mac version does not show the active Theme name anywhere on its interface. If you need to know the active Theme's name for any open presentation, how do you find this information? You can find the name of the Theme applied to the presentation following the steps explained below:

  1. Launch PowerPoint 2011 to bring up the PowerPoint 2011 interface, as shown in Figure 1. Open any existing presentation or just continue with the blank presentation that PowerPoint brings forth, as shown in Figure 1, below. Now select the Themes tab of the Ribbon (highlighted in red within Figure 1).

  3. Within the Themes tab, locate the Themes group which displays a collection of Themes, as shown in Figure 2. Hover the cursor over these Theme previews, and a down-arrow appears, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 2.

  5. Click the down-arrow (highlighted in red within Figure 2, above) to bring up the Themes drop-down gallery that you can see in Figure 3.

  7. Within the Themes drop-down gallery, the active Theme that the existing presentation is based upon is visible within the top section named This Presentation (highlighted in red within Figure 4). If you hover the mouse cursor over the Theme preview thumbnail, you will see a tool tip that shows the name of the active Theme (refer to Figure 4 again).

  9. In some cases, it's possible that your active presentation has more than one Theme applied. This may happen if not all slides in your presentation use the same Theme. In this case, bring up the Themes drop-down gallery as explained earlier on this page. Within the This Presentation section, you will see more than one Theme, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 5, below.

  11. Hover the mouse cursor over the Theme preview thumbnail, to find out the Theme's name and also to which slide(s) a particular Theme is applied, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 6.
