You can either insert pictures on PowerPoint slides, or link them -- either way, you can see the pictures on the slide. Once inside PowerPoint, pictures can be formatted, tweaked, and animated like any other PowerPoint object.

Follow these steps to insert link a picture in PowerPoint:

  1. In PowerPoint, create a new presentation or use an existing presentation. Make sure that the active slide is where you want the picture to be inserted.

  2. Choose Insert | Picture | From File as shown in Figure 1.

  3. This will summon the Insert Picture dialog box that you can see in Figure 2. Select the location and the picture you want to insert and then click the Insert button to get back to your PowerPoint slide.

To link: The Insert button has a small menu (as sown in Figure 3) that provides two options for inserting a picture -- one is Insert, and the other is Link to File -- if you want to link to a picture, choose the latter option.

Note: If a picture is inserted with Link to File option, the picture is linked to the presentation. Later, if the picture is renamed or deleted, it will show up as a red X in the presentation.

  4. Whichever option you choose from Insert or Link, once done you will see the picture placed on the PowerPoint slide as shown in Figure 4.

  5. The picture can be edited by resizing, moving, rotating, etc.

Adobe Captivate's Edit View

In an earlier post last week, I discussed Adobe Captivate's views and compared them to PowerPoint's deafult views. I also explained about the Storyboard View. In this post, I'll look at Captivate's Edit view, which in many ways is similar to PowerPoint's Normal view. If you are not already in Edit view within Captivate, choose the View drop-down in the toolbar, and select Edit View.
