Introducing Status Bar

The Status Bar is a thin strip located at the bottom of the PowerPoint interface as shown in Figure 1. This area provides information about the active slide and applied Theme -- and also provides View options.

If you have no presentation open in PowerPoint, the entire Status Bar area is grayed out.

Status Bar Contents

Let me show you some components of the Status Bar -- Figure 2 marks some of these components so that I can refer to them in the explanations below:

  1. Slide: This displays the active slide number, as well as the number of slides in the open presentation.

  2. Theme name: Here you can see the Theme that's been applied to the open presentation.

  3. View Buttons: Here you can select the appropriate buttons to switch to the Normal, Slide Sorter, or Slide Show views. Shift click the same buttons to access the Slide Master view, Handout Master view, and the Set Up Show dialog box.

  4. Zoom: Pull the slider left or right to zoom in or out, or click the zoom level to bring up the Zoom dialog box as shown in Figure 3 -- here you can specify the zoom level.

Adobe Captivate's Edit View

In an earlier post last week, I discussed Adobe Captivate's views and compared them to PowerPoint's deafult views. I also explained about the Storyboard View. In this post, I'll look at Captivate's Edit view, which in many ways is similar to PowerPoint's Normal view. If you are not already in Edit view within Captivate, choose the View drop-down in the toolbar, and select Edit View.
