A PowerPoint Blog: Learn PowerPoint 2011: Import Outlines in PowerPoint

Creating outlines for PowerPoint in various external applications lets you stay away from distractions in PowerPoint-land -- once you have the outlines done, it's very easy to import it in the form of slides into PowerPoint. While this import process works the same way in all versions of PowerPoint, there are small interface changes -- in this tutorial, I'll show you how to import outlines in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.

A PowerPoint Blog: Learn PowerPoint 2010: Outline Pane Options

The Slides/Outline pane in PowerPoint 2010 looks and works almost the same as it did in previous versions. Unfortunately Microsoft took away the Outlining toolbar in PowerPoint 2007 and provided no replacement commands in any Ribbon tab -- this state of affairs continues in PowerPoint 2010. Yes, this does mean that most of the outline tasks now have to be accessed through right-click options -- and I'll show you how you can do that.

Outlines are typically text files that you can create in applications such as Notepad, or even Microsoft Word. Creating an outline and then importing it in the form of slides into PowerPoint is a great way to create a new presentation from scratch. A PowerPoint Blog: Creating New Slides: Three Ways

Typically, there are three ways in which slides can be added to your PowerPoint presentation -- and for any given presentation you can use either one of these ways, or all three! If you see the figure shown, you'll notice that I have represented these three ways by using overlapping circles -- that means you don't have to use just one way. You can combine whatever approach works best for you.

A PowerPoint Blog: Learn PowerPoint 2007: Text Placeholders vs. Text Boxes

I already covered this concept using PowerPoint 2003, and now will be exploring the relationship between text boxes and text placeholders in PowerPoint 2007. But maybe someone just said stop, and asked me these questions: Aren't text boxes and text placeholders the same? Are they really different? And why should I bother even if they are different?

Aren't text boxes and text placeholders the same? Are they really different? And why should I bother even if they are different? All these are valid questions, and the answers to them form one of the most important foundations in learning to create more structured presentations.

A PowerPoint Blog: Learn PowerPoint: Slides / Outline Pane in PowerPoint 2003

In the PowerPoint 2003 Interface page, I already showed you the different parts of the program interface -- in this page, we'll focus on one particular area of the interface: the Slides/Outline pane, and it is normally placed on the left side of the interface. The Slides tab is normally active, but to get to the Outline tab, all you need to do is select the second tab shown in the pane.
