PowerPoint Tutorials on Chart Area, Smart Connectors and PowerPoint Conversations (Page 168)
Collection of PowerPoint tutorials on Chart area, Smart Connectors and PowerPoint Conversations.
This week we have several exclusive interviews. First of all, hear from Dr. Nick Morgan about his new book, Power Cues that looks at non-verbal communication skills. Marco Montemagno speaks about his online Presentation SuperSummit. We explore another Callout sample and also review Office Timeline, a PowerPoint add-in that lets you create timelines within PowerPoint. We then explore a non-presentation product, Xara Web Designer 10 Premium.
PowerPoint 2013 users can learn this week about saving movies from your slides, and also about some caveats in doing so. We look at Chart Area stuff, and also explore how you can work more effectively with Connectors.
There may be times when you need to show both the chart and the underlying data that created the chart. To make this possible, you can use PowerPoint's Data Table option -- this way, not only you get the pictorial representation of the values, but you also get to show the same values in the form of a table right below the chart.
Simon Morton's career as an executive for a technology company exposed him to more PowerPoint than was good for him. In 2004 Simon founded Eyeful Presentations with two aims; ridding the world of 'Death by PowerPoint' and enjoying a relaxing, family future. Unfortunately for Simon (but great for businesses everywhere), his design and storytelling skills made a real impact. Ten years, two children, thousands of satisfied customers and six international offices later, it's going rather well (if not exactly to plan on the relaxation front). In this conversation, Simon discusses his new book, The Presentation Lab.
While PowerPoint 2013 lets you attach a connector to any slide object, these connectors can only be attached to wherever you see an anchor point on the slide object. Most of the time, the location of these anchor points may work well for you -- however, in certain scenarios, you may need an additional anchor point at a particular location. The good news is that you can add new anchor points for shapes and text boxes using the technique explained on this page. For text placeholders though, you cannot add new anchor points.
Dr. Nick Morgan is one of America's top communication theorists and coaches. A passionate teacher, he is committed to helping people find clarity in their thinking and ideas – and then delivering them with panache. He has been commissioned by Fortune 50 companies to write for many CEOs and presidents. He has coached people to give Congressional testimony, to appear on the Today Show, and to take on the investment community. In this conversation, Nick discusses his new book, Power Cues.
PowerPoint provides you with various text fill and outline options for your chart text. Additionally, there are some text effects that can be applied to your chart text. The available Effects for chart text are very few -- this may be because the chart text has its roots in Excel. So effects such as 3-D Rotation thankfully cannot be added to chart text! More importantly, if you make all changes to your text appearance within the Chart Area element, this influences all the text within your chart at one go, as we explain in this tutorial.
For more than 12 years, Marco Montemagno has dedicated his career to informing people about the opportunities offered by the Internet and technology by incorporating unconventional presentation tactics into his presentations. This includes ping-pongtables brought onto the stage, giving out rings to marry the Internet and handing out tennis balls to the audience to throw onto the stage, among others. In this conversation, Marco discusses his upcoming Presentation SuperSummit, an online event with an impressive line of speakers.
Many times when you draw connectors between shapes, the connector may use the shortest path to link between two shapes. This might mean that your connector overlaps other shapes, text boxes, or any other object that is positioned between the connected objects. You might have another reason to use a longer connector between two shapes as well. Whatever your reason may be, the good news is that you can easily reroute your connectors, either automatically or manually.
Xara Web Designer 10 Premium is an easy template based solution that gives you total page design freedom, with no HTML or coding skills required. It comes in 2 versions: Web Designer and Web Designer Premium. Web Designer Premium offers advanced web design features over and above the features available within Web Designer.
Office Timeline is an add-in for PowerPoint that helps you create a project timeline or Gantt chart, or any other timeline graphic. These timeline graphics provide an easy way to present your project plans to team members, management, and clients. The Office Timeline wizard lets you pick the type of timeline you want to create. Pick from 10 Timeline templates, enter the data, personalize the Timelines to suit your project needs, and finally click Finish. You can even copy and paste data from Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project to quickly create timelines.
Text used within a chart is not really formatted by default, and looks very simple. Note that the font style used is derived from the information available within the Theme or template used for the slides. Now you really should not change the text formatting within your chart unless you have a compelling reason to do so. Even though this default format looks consistent, at times you may want to change the text formatting.
We bring you a giveaway this time -- you can win one of 5 copies of Ppted's Mother's Day PowerPoint templates. We then explore the microphones that work best for PowerPoint users. We then start our new series on Color -- the first two parts are live on an introduction to Color, and on Contrast. PowerPoint 2013 for Windows users can learn about Chart Area options and also about Connectors.
When a connector is drawn to link two shapes together, it gets attached to a certain point on each of the shapes. On each shape, this point is one of those blue circle handles that appear when you are attaching the shape to a connector. Sometimes you may attach your connector to the wrong handle, and may need to detach it from that point, and attach it somewhere else. Or maybe you connected to the wrong shape altogether, and now want to detach the connector from one shape and attach it to another.
Yes, it’s quite easy to create a presentation and then export it entirely to a video clip in PowerPoint 2013. If you are lucky, you may face no problems at all. However, if you do hit a roadblock – and there can be several roadblocks – then here are some caveats we have found along with solutions and workaround for them.
It's been a while since we have explored a callout sample -- and this ad seems to have just the right callout to be featured within this series. Great symmetry, perfect choice of colors, and a callout that does double duty as a frame around the face too -- there's so much to like about this one!
When you insert a chart, the position of the Chart Area on the slide depends upon the layout of the slide. If your slide layout is Blank, then the Chart Area is located at the center of the slide. If the chart is inserted within an existing placeholder on the slide, it occupies the entire placeholder. To reposition the Chart on the slide, you can either just select and drag it to the new position on the slide, or reposition it accurately as explained in this tutorial. This tutorial will also teach you to how to add alternative, supporting text to the chart to help people with visual disabilities.
