Office 12 makeover takes on 'feature creep'

For years, Microsoft has been trying to add features to Office without them getting in the way of people who already know their way around the software. Unfortunately, the company was a little too successful at making its innovations unobtrusive. In user testing, Microsoft found that nine out of every 10 features that customers wanted to see added to Office were already in the program. "They simply don't know it's there," Chris Capossela, a Microsoft vice president, told a developer crowd last week. "It's just too hard to find it." More on CNET News.com...

The Ten Commandments for PowerPoint Presentations

And Moses replied, "Behold, I seek to make a presentation, for my audience will not believe me or listen to my voice and will otherwise say, 'You did not use PowerPoint!'" The Lord shook his head wearily and said to Moses, "What is that in your hand?" And Moses, his voice trembling, replied, "my wireless mouse." And the Lord said, "cast it on the ground." So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent...and Moses said to the Lord, "Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent...I am slow of speech and tongue." More on the Babson Free Press site...

More than a year before the final product ships, a pre-beta version of Microsoft Office 12 is revealing radical interface changes and user paradigm shifts that recall the overly ambitious Microsoft Office 97 update. Gone are the familiar File, Edit, View and other drop-down menus; instead, major functions will be grouped into task-specific tabs at the top of the window. More on ZDNet UK site...

Death to (bad) PowerPoint!

That's the name of a new PowerPoint blog from Andrew - the blog discusses bad PowerPoint and how you can make t better. Here's the description in Andrew's own words:

The title of this blog is a little misleading. I’m not actually proposing “death to PowerPoint”. I don't hate PowerPoint. I don't even dislike it. In fact, I actually think it's one of the most useful persuasive tools ever devised. What I am proposing with this blog is death to bad PowerPoint. Go to Andrew's blog....
